rear end gears

Hey Everyone, I was wondering what gear I should run. The truck has 373s out back, but since I added 33 inch tires ( I think) and Stock tires are 31 (I think) I have a loss of power, and my spedo is way off. What would I need back there, to straighten it all out?

You can change to 410 like what is in all the duallys unless ordered with 373. A shop did mine for 1026.56. Including drop out, cleaning, install, and fluids. If you feel confident in your own garage the new gears and seals along with the correct bearing are half that price. The only reason I had to pay way I couldnt do it on the side of the road.

Wow, why is it so expensive? Is that price the norm?

I recommend the 4.10's You'll have plenty of grunt with those mildly oversized tires and still have a reasonable RPM on the freeway.

Great, I like the way it runs now, (low rpms on the freeway) But Im thinking the extra push to get it to go from stoplight to stoplight in the city makes it a wash... Know what I mean? Any idea what this should run price wise? I know my Mustang was like 400, but the above post said like over a grand! I could almost get a junk yard rear end for that, and swap them out cheaper LOL.

Changing the gearset won't correct the speedo. You'll need the dealer to change the PCM settings for that. Or get a box that will correct it externally, like the Superlift Tru-speed

Awesome! Reading this thread came in WAAAY handy for me. I just put in 5.38's in my rig and of course, the speedo is still way off, was wondering what I could do to correct it, so after reading this thread I just went and bought a TruSpeed unit. Thanks Cookie!!!!

Depending on your PCM code, some of the tuners like SCT will correct for varying tire sizes.

I believe all of the tuners will correct for tire size with a gas engine. I really don't know anything about the SCT, but the SCMT, Predator, Evoloution, PPIII, etc. will not correct tire size with the diesel.

if you have a 4 wheel drive, remember you need to do the front axle too.
