BELIEVE - and stuff happens...

This ain't about religion, it IS about faith (that unimaginable thing that seems so slippery to people)

It's true. I can attest to that.

Surround yourself with successful people, and you will be too.

Who you are with is a reflection of what you are thinking or buying into anyway... And this is why I got off the mainstream and got into the whole idea of UBU in the first place. I don't care jack about what is cool - I really don't. It is at the root of why i stopped watching television in 1983 or 1984. I just did not care about that at all....

I care about what really interests me. The rest is just a distraction. It isn't TRUE to me.

I want to be who I AM....

I think for myself, with the education I have.

When my interests lead me off in a direction I don't know a lot about, I go find someone who can teach me.

But you have to realise that whatever fascinates you the most is the subject area you will learn the fastest. "WHAT IS FUN COMES QUICKLY"

Some of the stuff is difficult, but that should also point out to you your interests....

But BELIEVING....

That is the essence of success!

If you have no faith, you will not do well. Find whoever you can to just be around who does have that until you also can JUST BELIEVE.

All sorts of stuff happens after that.

-Trust me, it's TRUE!

PS: UBU is not a politcal statement, it has nothing to do with anything except one simple point...

YOU BE YOURSELF.

- That is all it is.
Uninfluenced by other people or media spin.
You are making your own choices.....

And that whole idea is personal.

PPS: Once you reach that point, where you find the things you really DO like, and kiss off "What Is Expected Of You", then you can make informed choices about who you really want to be.

I for example am a confirmed heterosex male with HOTROD TRUCKS hardwired into my basic conception of all things....

I just like to play with fast metal.

Oops, oh darn....

Reminds me of a book I read long ago (it is still available). It is called PHYCHO CIBERNETICS by Dr. Maxwell Maltz.

Just let go of all the JUNK others try to fill your mind with, and try to remember the little person you once were - a long time ago.

You never changed (the little guy or gal) inside.

You really have not changed. That person is still right down inside you. It might be thinking about shielding itself from hurtfull experiences and all of that - but YEAH! It still wants a wonderful world and life. A part of every one of us looks out at everything with the very same eyes we did as children. And we wish it could be just like that.

Can it be?

You just got loaded down with a lot of CRAP!

Get rid of that stuff, and get back in touch with who you really are.....

Your childhood self is always with you, and always will be for the rest of our lives. It is who we really are before we became changed by life experiences.

But we misinterpret life very often, and it alters our point of view

I digress, but as things try to change us, we completely forget who we were to begin with. And how we felt about things such as wrong and right, whatever...

WE FORGET WHO WE ARE.

I am a CHILD - and so are you.

I'm still doing the best I can to learn all the time.

I promise you that I am.

After reading your "It gets old after awhile" post, I know that I must tread lightly here. If you have a philosophy that works for you .... that is fine and it is good that you would want to share it, but I have no desire to revert to an inner child. All that I have learned and experienced from that time I was a child, including a considerable amount of "crap", has made me what I am - a man that has never reached his potential but finds satisfaction just trying to get closer each day ..... and enjoying the trip.
Our exchange brings to mind Lucy from the Peanuts cartoon sitting in her stand with the sign, "Psychiatric help, 5 cents, the doctor is in".

I think what Wolf is trying to say is that the majority of people, live day and day out doing what is expected of them. Having gone through a rough patch in life, I can understand what he means by UBU. It doesn't work for everyone. And if someone is happy with how their life is going, then there is no need to change. I married young (just turned 21), and had my second daughter by 27. I was expected to be a mom and wife. And there is nothing wrong with that except that I lost myself in the process. By the time I turned 36, I woke up and realized I did not deserve to be treated like poop by a volatile husband. Three years later, I am who I was years ago. Carefree and happy. My daughters are my life, and I do things to please myself. I don't care what people think. And I'm my own boss of my mind, soul and body. Just ask my daughter's when I put my hair up in buns like Princess Leah in Star Wars, and go out in public (so I embarrass them a little )
Maybe it's the hard times that has pushed us into a different view of life. And this is when you find out who your friends really are.

Wolf, keep on being U.

Many of us do. Its called a job. I happen to like mine. There is no reason to not do what is expected of you while being yourself.

I'm not talking about the job part. I have one of those, 40 plus hours per week, that I enjoy and have been at for 20 years this year. I probably didn't clarify it well. But what I'm talking about is, having someone (or more) dictating every move you make. So that your constantly anticipating what the next thing will be that you need to do. And thinking that you need to be just like them in order to be accepted. Some of us, me included, are strong willed and it just doesn't feel right to us, leading to our unhappiness. And it's not easy to find the mind set in order for changes to happen.
Wolf has been going through some trying times. I can understand the sense of freedom, when your head and gut isn't in constant turmoil. Let him enjoy his new life, that he is finding is full of surprises, satisfaction and joy. If what he thinks is working for him, why knock it.

Confidence goes along way too, although it can be quite elusive sometimes. I think this is where the "faith" kicks in when the confidence is lacking. When you have the two of them, then i imagine one would be successfull and happiness would be a byproduct of the two.

My main thought here is that if I just believe that things are going to become really cool - whatever "really cool" happens to be is either going to come and find me, or I will notice a way to get to it from where I'm at.

Richard Bach, in his book "Illusions" wrote that if you imagine a thing - you will be naturally drawn to it (consciously, or unconsciously). It will happen.

I also think this is true of negative ideas or imaginings, so be careful with that...

Sit down in a quiet place, close your eyes and imagine yourself reeling in and landing a HUGE bass like you've never seen before, and everything going well, the drag set just so... And everything going perfectly.

I can't tell you where it might be, or when.

Just picture it from time to time.

Let me know if one of these days it happens JUST LIKE THAT, okay?

It's a focus. A motivation. Without it life is pretty much wasted.

I'm reminded of Baltimore, Md. They have the word "BELIEVE" all over the city. Believe what? In a city that was convicted of shortening the yellow light to rake in the cash on the cameras? (I know because I got money back.) The stupid sign is right beside the light that broke the story.

I believe in this very much. For several years recently my wife and I have really been making great strides. Lookin' good', and smellin' good, and things going good. But the last few months, with some health issues, we have let ourselves get down, and all of a sudden things look bleak. Gotta pick ourselves up and get with it here pretty soon 'cause I hate being down like this.

Hummm, good thread.
