Timing...valve action & ignition

If a 460's valve action timing was off by a couple of degrees, could the difference be somewhat compensated with ignition timing?

The ignition timing only effects the firing of the cylinder. Not when the valves open and close. Why do you think the valve timing is off?

I cant get my initial below 12*. The motor runs like total crap if I take the initial below 14*. I have reworked the internals of the dist. and my total timing is around 36* without the vacuum advance connected. My numbers on my balancer ae correct. With the vacuum advance connected this motor screams. If the temp goes above 170* I get pinging. I was thinking the valve action might need to be advanced 2* more in order to get the ignition down a bit. If the temp stays below 170* I could probably run even more advance, although I know not to. It seems that with the timing set correctly that this would be an engines optimum performance and this engine runs best at above about 44*, set with vacuum advance plugged and then reconnected.
