Here is what I just bought and let's see if you can help.....
I just got an '83 F-250 and it had a 460 Carbed in it. Now its got a 302 FI and runs like crap!(obviously) The drivetrain and body and interior are in good enough shape but is the motor worth looking into to try and convert to a carbed motor, and is it feasable to turn it into a carbed motor? The motor is a faily new jasper but I know they had no idea what they were doing. Mind you the truck doesn't have to be put on the street nor does it need emmisions.
I also only paid 500 for it. So it's kinda fair game at this point.
any ideas?
currently I am thinking about just selling the 302 and A/T and trying to find a 460 or such with the original M/T that the truck was.
For a mud truck, I would try to find a 460 to put back in there. The 302 can be made to run better with a carb setup. The only thing I wonder about is the fuel pump. Is it running an external electric aftermarket fuel pump, or did the PO go to the trouble of installing an original high pressure in-tank electric pump. If external you could remove it and just run a block mounted fuel pump, or a regular low pressure electric pump.
