HP & Torque
I looked at the specifications page here on the site, and they don't go back far enough to cover a truck this old. I'm sure someone around here has this info.
So....
What is the peak HP and at what RPMs?
and
What is the peak torque and at what RPMs?
Thanks in advance.

Now I'm just looking for the info on what RPMs the engine produces those peak numbers.
170 HP at ????RPMs
315 ft/lbs at ????RPMs
Can anybody fill in the ???? blanks........
1600RPM Peak TQ, should be right.
So, from that I'll take it that somewhere in between - presumably around 2000-2100 - should be the point where the HP and torque curves cross, and therefore the optimum RPM range for pulling a load on the highway, eh?
If you look at the newer 7.3l the overdrive trannies (automatics and manuals) are all geared to a highway cruising rpm anywhere from 1,900 to 2,100 rpm depending on your rear end. The 6.9l motors never had OD trannies so their fuel economy was lower as they cruised around 2,500 rpm.
It all makes sense.
If you want better fuel economy you add an overdrive unit such as a US Gear Splitter or a Gear Vendor unit.
A second OD unit also makes sense on the newer 7.3l trucks to take advantage of the low end torque and save fuel if you don't mind getting where you are going a little slower which is not exactly the way the truck market has gone over the last 15 years. Everybody wants more power and go faster so the fuel economy on a 93 7.3l turbo is still atleast 20% better than what a new 2006 PSD will do. Amazing isn't it.
But maybe the winds are starting to change, Ford seems to be promising higher fuel economy and power on the new 2007 6.4 liter trucks. We will have to see I guess.
Anyway, best of luck,
Seb.....
