They still used them in the SD 250 and 350 until the body style change in 99.
Really? Every reference I've come across states that all 300/4.9 production was discontinued after the 96 model year. I'd be interested in finding a 99 SD250 with the big six in it.
Thanks for the replys guys. Would these mass air 300's be easy to tune with a handheld tuner like SCT if I was going to do a turbo setup?
If the program is supported by SCT, then you could with the 96's since they are OBD-II. The 95's being OBD-I are not compatable with the tuners and require chip carriers plugged into the J3 test port instead.

In the F150 it was. You won't find a 99 with a 300 in it because that was the first year of the new body style in the big truck. They used the 5.4, V10 and PSD. In 97 and 98 the 250 and 350 still had the body style of the 96 and earlier 150. I'm sure those trucks with the 300 are very rare, if they made any. But it was available.
I tow my travel trailer, ~5300 lbs. It is not fast but will get you where ever you want to go. I gotta shift out of 5th on most hills, which is commen sense, but can keep 90 to 100 kph most of the time. I also have 35" tires and 4.56 gears so I have a wee bit more wind resistance then before. I am actually quite impressed on how it tows. I tow a jet boat as well, which would be around the 2000 or so mark and the truck does not even feel it behind. Alot depends on your tranny and gears, but I say hook up to it and go for it. If you have the right tranny / gear combo, I think you will be suprised at what it can do. I know I was.
Oh, sorry, for milage I am getting 16 mph empty and never figured it out with the trailer, but would be around 12 I would guess looking at my consumtion.

Sorry, ment 98 not 99.
I agree that the 250/350 retained the 9th gen chassis in 97 and 98...what I find when searching is that the Essex 4.2 V6 replaced our 4.9/300 I6 and that the Triton series V8's replaced the Windsor series in the 97 model year.
Perhaps there were a few 250's assembled with the I6 for "leftover" stock the same as some of the 80-81 I6's had forged cranks from leftover stocks from the HD's. Finding one would be rare and worth hanging onto.
