a fully loaded Ford F-350 DRW with the Max Tow Pack well tow 19,200 pounds, (6.0L) the V10 will to 15,000 and the 5.4L from the F-150 in a Super Duty style truck well tow 12,300 Fords are stronger, weigh more, and more stable at higher speeds when towing its a fact a Chev well not even think about towing that much a Dodge is a bit closer fords just got it going Built Ford Tough = Stronger Frame that can tow more
If you are recommending someone tow 12,300 lbs. with the 5.4L on a regular basis, you have lost what is left of your mind.
This isn't a Ford bashing thing. The Chevy 6.0 and the legendary DCX Hemi wouldn't do much better with that weight.
Forget about those stupid factory tow ratings. Go tow with different trucks and engines, and you will get a good idea of what you can and can't do.
I've towed with a GM V-6, a Dodge V-6, 318 V-8 and V-10 and Ford V-8s. That's why I currently own 2 diesels. A 7.3 and a CDI.
BTW - My '06 4.6L is rated at 6500 lbs. and it can't pull my cat out of the litter box.
