Yes, I installed the shroud. I went today and bought a new 3 row (the 4 row was no longer available) and installed it. I have a new 160* thermostat, a new clutch fan, the original Ford fan. When idling for appx. 20 minutes the temp at the radiator cap hole was 180*. This seems high to me.
Don't forget that the same c--p that plugs the radiator fills the engine. That can slow down the circulation and cause overheat problems. A radiator flush also flushes the engine. I would put the old radiator back in to pour in the chemical and bypass the heater core and follow the directions about run time and see if that dosen't take care of the problem.
I think your running temp is normal. HOWEVER, I believe that our trucks call for either a 180 or 195 degree thermostat. You will be sorry this winter using a 160 stat. Your heater will suffer.
My 351 is running the 195. This helps to heat the oil, etc, and keeps all the emission crap happy. I sure dont want to get sludge back in this motor. The previous owner could have cared less, and ran it for years with no 'stat. Then griped constantly about how it was a b***h to run in the cold NC winters.
I have the 3 core new radiator, too. My engine t'stat starts opening at 190, and is fully open at 195. After idling for awhile, it will climb higher. All engines do.
