hi guys, hope you can help me out. I have a 1960 f-250 4x4 3/4 ton. I am having the original 16 in. wheels redone and I am putting the original dog dish style hub caps back on that are silver with red lettering "FORD". I have 2 questions. First, I would like to know a paint code or name to match the silver. Second question, did they ever make a hubcap for the front with a hole to fit over the locking hubs??
Any input much appreciated ...thanks!
I thought I had heard somewhere that some of the 4x4s did have hubcaps, but had circular holes crudely cut in them for the hub, with no finishing whatsoever.
My dad ordered a 4X4 in 1972, and it came from the factory with hub caps on it. The front ones had the complete center cut out for the lockouts. It wasn't rough cut either.
The 72 F-100's had a full wheel cover with the centers cut out, but not the F-250's. Some dealers added them to trucks by cutting out the centers from caps in stock. I did this to my 75 F-250 at tne dealer I was manager and a buddy did this to a 76. THey looked as good as a factory job.
I use a "Dupli-Color" silver in a spray can. I buy this brand at Wal-Mart. It is a perfect match. I compared this color to the silver color on bottom side of my glove box hinge which never saw the light of day and it was a perfect match!

PS: what color is the red in the FORD letters?
The Duplicolor argent color is called "Light Slate" and it's a dead ringer for factory argent. Unfortunately, I'll warn you now it doesn't last very long.
"First, I would like to know a paint code or name to match the silver. "
I checked my stock of spray cans because I remembered having a can of Argent spray paint. I bought it at what was Obsolete Ford Parts in Oklahoma City. They have changed their name to Classic Auto Parts. The number on the can is F6AZ-19K207-AA and Ford Internal Reference No. 014479.
It was distributed by Ford Motor Company, Dearborn MI. There is a date on the can but it is shelf worn, looks like it could be 1980 but can't tell for sure. It has the Ford script in the oval in white at the top of the label which is blue with 3 red squiggly stripes. Back of label reads ARGENT SPRAY PAINT
Use to refinish splash pans and other Argent (Silver) colored metal body parts.
Then the usual directions for application of spray paint.
I do remember buying only one can because it was so exspensive, but most of the prices there are high.
You can still get the argent paint from your local Ford dealer, part number PM 19K207-AA . THey can get it thru thier Motorcraft wholesaler. We carry it all the time.
