When I was at my grandparents recently I found out they had parked their 64 F100 4x4 in the back row of vehicles. It currently has a 292 in it with a 4spd. The 292 runs good and it drives well they just dont have a need for it anymore.
I dont know that much about the Y block motors so I cant tell if the 292 is a good motor or not. I have a 352 that Im taking out of a 67 right now and Im thinking that would be a good motor for a work pickup and run around vehicle.
I know that the 64's had a weird setup with a front motor mount and transmission ears or somthing like that. If I was to put in the 352, all I should need is the side perches out of somthing like 65 or 66 right??? What about tranny mounts??
There are several aftermarket engine/trans mounts available for your truck. Check out LMC, Dennis Carpenter, and even this site I believe. That way you wont have to cut out the mounts and so on for your truck.
I agree, If the truck runs good, and since it's your grandfathers leave it alone. I can promise you that 30 years from now, you will wish you still had the truck and it was like you first saw it. Nobody likes FEs better than I do for our trucks.
