Fuel system issues

Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've posted but I've got a problem.

Last year, I had an issue with one of the fuel pump relays. I went thru a car wash and the next morning the truck didnt want to start. After extensive troubleshooting, I was able to conclude that it was the fuel pump relay. So I went ahead and replaced it. It turns out the truck wouldn't start still. I had a friend go over it, and with his fresh eyes he determined the same thing. Only it turned out there were 2 of the exact same relay, but they appear to do different things.

Now it appears that one of them is not working yet again, the one clicks like it should but the fuel pump does not turn on. Now I'm assuming that it is the relay, because the other day it when it happened, I went ans switched the 2 of them around and tapped them and the truck started. It ran fine until yesterday afternoon on the way home from work, it died again. This morning, the truck started, ran for about 1 minute then all power to the fuel pump died. I tried tapping the relays again but to no avail. Switching the relays around didnt work either. I guess what I'm asking is.... Will the second relay take over for the first one if one dies or vice versa. When switched, one seems to click louder than the other but one doesnt turn on even with them switched. Where should I go from here?? I'm thinking it may be a wiring problem somewhere along the line, but I also think it could be the relay, I'm not sure.

Some info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin.

It could be a wiring problem, it could be in the relays, who knows? Diagnosing this systematically requires a voltmeter and a wiring diagram. Start at the battery and measure battery voltage. Then work down the fuel pump circuit and see where you the voltage drops off. The problem in the circuit is between the last place where you had battery voltage and where the voltage dropped. I had to do this a few months ago to my Explorer and traced the problem to a bad connection in the wiring between the fuel pump fuse and the fuel pump relay. Splice in a new wire and I was going again.
