It should be the hose on the sensor the goes to the EGR tube closer to the intake and not the exhaust manifold. Usually, either the EGR passages or clogger or more commonly, the sensor itself is bad.
OK thanks. I haven't yet had a chance to pull the engine cover as I've been working on my motorcycle, but I still am getting the 1405 almost everytime I drive the van.
Just as an update for others with this problem, I finally pulled the engine cover and the DPFE sensor was right where I thought it was and I could see right away one of the hoses looked like it was ripped right near the DPFE sensor. I removed the sensor and both rubber hoses. The hose that is considered the 'reference' hose (as marked on the DPFE sensor) was torn.
It is the type of rubber hose that has thread in the middle of the rubber. Strangely there was about 4 inches of hose that the inner rubber was gone and that part of the hose was real fragile and had ripped. None of the other part of the hose was like that, nor was the 2nd hose like that at all. Not sure what would have eaten up the hose like that. Anyway, I bought a foot of hose and replaced it and after a 60 mile trip, no code today.
I wish all code problems were this specific.
LXMan1. It actually was the lower hose; the one nearer to the exhaust. Being that I'm familiar with DP sensors on industrial controls, I can understand that the computer would not know for sure which one was the problem.
