Hey guys, I have a problem with my ecm, when it is scanned it shows an error code saying that there is a PC Rom failure, im contemplating replacing the ecm but i would like to know if there would be a difference, does the computer go into loop mode once i start driving it? would i notice any kind of difference in replacing the computer? the truck runs fine, i just dont know if it would be worth it for me to invest that kind of money, let me know what you guys think, theres a few ppl on here that very knowledgable in these areas and i hope they repond to my dilema, thanks guys for any help in advanced----Dinty
yea, ive tried disconnecting the battery and letting it "re-learn" the parameters, but it always runs the same way, i also have a diablo flip chip on it but if i remove the chip it runs the same way so im guessin the ecm is done, i dont know if it was this way when i bought it but thats what ya get for buyin a used truck . . .
edit, i have a 97, its the old body style of the 96's and all with a 351w, e40d, supercab longbed 4x4
hey, yea i realize that but id like to know if i replace the ecm will i notice a difference in the driving of the truck? is it worth spending the money for the ecm, if it isnt then ill just let it go that way but if it is i might put a new one in there
I have been working with all kinds of computers for 30 years and to me ROM means Read Only Memory. So this error does not make much sense to me. You obviously still have the program as it is running fine and without its program it would not run. If it is the learned operations than that would be in Ram (Random Access Memory) not ROM.
I would say if it runs fine than drive it but I know your year also has Flash Memory also.
There is an EEC Forum over on YAHOO groups and they take the programs apart and change it and then re-flash their PCMs memory. They could answer your questions better than I could as they also work with newer PCMs, 1996 and up.
