I just put on new rims and tires, however, did not purchase a spare rim the same size as the rims i put on. my question is, if everything else is the same, could i ride the same exact tire on a rim one inch (smaller in width) and just drive it (temporarily) to get the tire fixed. so in other words the only difference from the other rims would be one that is one inch smaller in width.
I'm currently doing that right now. I have one stock 16x6 rim and 5 custom 16x7 rims. The tires are all the same, 35x10.5's. To date, it's been about a month since a blowout caused a rim to crack, I haven't had any problems driving it. Even though the stock rim has a slightly different backspacing as well. I actually drove it like that for about 500 miles to get home after the blowout. Obviously, the same rim is preferred, but I don't think there's any problem running the narrower wheel, same size tire combo as a spare.

I have 33 x 12.50 x 16.5 tires on mine and my spare is the stock 265/75/16. I mounted the spare once to drive it 50 miles to get a tire fixed. The big thing on my non-stocks rims is that the lug nuts are different than stock - different size so the provided lug wrench doesn't fit them and different style so they won't work on the stock rims. I now carry a set of stock lugnuts and a collapsable 4 size lug wrench.
EnviroCon,Do you have that 35" spare tire in the stock location under the bed? Did you have to modify anything to get it to fit or is there enough room.thanks
My spare is a 35". . .Now. Here's a link to a thread from not to long ago where I explain in more detail about the "Now" part and we ask the "will a 35" spare fit" question. I'm still waiting on Stockton Wheel to repair my rim. It should be done tomorrow, so I should get it back next week. Then I'll be able to answer the question. Post or subscribe to that thread so when I find out and post to it you'll get a heads-up. Or, better yet, if you find out the answer before me, you can post it there so everyone on that thread will know.
