Hi everyone!..WOW..its been awhile since I have posted...I almost couldn't find yall...lol...how's everyone?...I have missed all of yall...I hope someone will recognize my name..I have been super duper busy and haven't had a chance to post here in some time...what a great new look we have now... anyways..on to the reason I am posting today...as some of you know I inherited my Dad's 66 F100..its running great!!....anyhoo...the steering wheel has cracked in 3 places...at the "arms" that come down to where the horn is...these are pretty deep cracks...and I was thinking maybe I should replace it..How hard is it to find one of these?...I have checked a few sites on the web and they either don't have them or they cost an arm and a leg...or..if any of you all happen to have one of these babies just sitting around taking up space..I could sure use it...let me know...Thanks for any help in advance..
One more thing...I bought one of KMart's 1965 BLUELIGHT.COM F100 pickup banks the other day...its the same color as my truck...I have it sitting next to my 66 Wix bank..remember me getting that one from EBAY?.. I decided not to put that one on my Dad's grave...afraid it might get stolen..so I just put a pic of it on there...I really wanted to..but my mom didn't want to put it there cuz she didn't want me to feel bad if someone took it..
Well thats it...and up to date...thanks again...good to be back..at least I think I'm in the right place..
Hi Sherry, Why don't you repair it with epoxy, sand her smooth and shoot it with a new coat of paint, for that good as new original wheel.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
I have been looking for about ten years for a perfect wheel and they don't exist. I ordered one from a guy on ebay and it was cracked when it was received. He resent a wheel that he repaired but not to the detail that I think is necessary. It took two evenings to repair the first steering wheel and it is now ready for paint. If your interested in the wheel that the seller repaired I will sell to you for the $35 I have into it. It is black.
I guess I better buy a vault for my mint, uncracked or repaired '66 wheel!!! I installed one that I repaired on my truck before I got the good one, plan to keep the nice one for a backup! It isn't too difficult to repair a steering wheel, be sure to clean all the dirt and grease off it before painting or repair!
I just finished repairing my wheel on my '65 today. I used J-B WELD KWIK. You can find it at your local autoparts or hardware store for about $4. It worked very well. I cleaned the wheel first with Castrol Super Clean, then dried it with compressed air to get all the moisture out of the cracks. This epoxy sets up very fast so I mixed small amounts and worked one crack at a time. Wear disposable vinyl or latex gloves to keep the epoxy off your fingers. I applied it and worked it in with a toothpick and then smoothed it with a gloved finger. After it set I knocked it down with 180 grit and then followed with 400 grit. I used a scuffing pad on the wheel to roughen up the old finish and then bought a $5 spray can of touch-up lacquer at the auto parts store and shot the wheel. For $10 and a little time, it turned out better than I had hoped. I hope this helps.

Thanks 1965...I will try that...I think I can do it...sounds like its not too terribly complicated...I will give a shot...Can't look much worse than it does now... I will let yall know how it turns out...I have seen this JB Weld stuff in the auto parts store..
Thanks again..for all the info..you guys are the greatest..
Hey Sherry - I think it's cool you've got your Dad's old truck. My grandfather bought my 61 Unibody short-bed new and I got it when he passed away in 82. Lends a whole different value to the truck doesn't it?
I just did mine the hard way with slow-set epoxy, 150 then 400 sanding. The thing to do with paint is to use appliance epoxy. Looks better than new, and holds up better than basic paint.
It's Ace store brand - got it (black) at Ace Hardware. No problems with runs. Directions say to add additional coats no sooner than 10 min, no longer than an hour. I put on 3 coats at 15 min. intervals. I didn't touch the wheel for 2 days. Cures fully in 5 days.
