which tire is best

i am about to get some MTs for my 89 f150. as of now i can put 32x11.50x15
my choices are Super Swamper TSLs, BFG MTs, Maxxis Buckshots, and ProComp MTs. another choice is to put a 2 inch body lift, at that point i would go with 33x12.50x15. what mileage will i get with each tire? off road ability? also what back spacing would i need on a set of 15x8 rims? 15x10? thanks for the help.

Sounds good. What type of off-roading will be done ? Dirt, mud, or rocks ? Personally I'd go with Groundhogs. Do you want a quiet tire ? A serious off-road tire will be heard from a distance and after a while you can tell what speed you're doing (on asphalt) by the sound of the tires. I'd go with 8" rims. The rim width should be close to the width of the tire, or just under. The offset should be near factory or a bit less to clear inner fenders/tie rods, etc. at full turn.

I will be wheeling in dirt and mud and some creeks. I don't care about the tire noise. i had a jeep with MTs on it and it was loud as can be. so 8in wheel. you said it should be close to the width of the tire or just under. a 10 in wide wheel would be closer to teh width of either tires. wouldn't it? i'd like some tire to stick out from under the fender. what would be necissary for this?

thanks

tire sticking out = less backspacing, which is bad...

i'd not get a body lift and spend the money from that on more aggressive tires.

when i got my 37" procomp XT's i had a choice of 37x13.50's or 37x12.50's i was told that you should not go farther than 2'' past your wheel. i have a 17x8 wheel and the tires are 2.25 over so that isnt to bad but the 13.50 would be 2.75 over ya not much but it would make a difference. so try not to go over the wheel much more over 2" both ways!!!

A BFG or procomp would give you more road miles, and do ok off road, but the tsl would do great off road, and ok on.... the buckshot would give the same miles as the tsl, and perform about the same as the bfg off road(not worth it to me).

As for as mileage goes, you probabally have 3.55 gears so the 33s wouldn't be good on take off, and you'd never stay in overdrive.

A 8" wide wheel would work for tires from 10.50-12.50 without trouble. Also, the backspacing should be around 3.5" or so.

Just a suggestion, ever looked at the super swamper LTBs?
They have a 31x11.50-15 for about $100 a tire, and it be just like a tsl, but cheaper and alittle better off road(outside lugs are bigger).

i'm sorry when i said mileage i meant how many miles should i expect out of each tire. also i have a C6 tranny so no overdrive. i don't do many highway miles so i'm not concerned with that. and when i do do highway miles its at like 60-65 mph. this only truck doesn't like high speed. i'll look into the LTB. so how many miles should i expect out of the Buckshot, TSL, or the LTB? thanks

Buchshots will get about 35k miles till they are bald(all lugs).
A TSLs inter lugs will only last about 30-35k miles, but they'd still pull off road b/c at least half of the out side lug would still be there.
The LTB would be the same as a bias ply TSL.

A radial TSL would cost more, and I don't know how many miles you could get out of them.

For the bias ply tsl or LTB, I'd suspect about 30-35K miles till the inside lugs would be bald, but still have plenty of outside lugs for offroad.
