Gear Selector Adjustment Broken
Lets Open by a big THANK YOU for all the money you are saving me on a rainey Sunday in Ohio. Two of Three problems are already posted and solved. My current problem is with my gear selector. My mechanic (for the big problems) showed me how to adjust the selector. It slipped the other day and now woln't adjust. It appears the white plastic carrier barcket on the column is busted. How involved is this going to be. I'm an Okay mechanic, but some times can suffer from lack of patience and tolerance in these projects. The low down on the truck. 1999 F-250LD (7700),Automatic Trans with manual 4x4 selector 5.4L motor, Standard cab long wheel base. Please help. It's not a big issue but makes me crazey(-ier) to see that dang thing out of position. Thank you in advance.

To replace the broken piece you'll have to replace the complete shift indicator and cable assembly.
It's actually pretty easy to do.
You'll have to remove the covers on the steering column (screws on the bottom side and remove the ignition lock cylinder by putting the key in Run and pressing the little button under the lock cylinder with a small screwdriver or pick to release it.) and the one above the column, under the instrument cluster (it just pops off).
Once you've got the covers off there are just a couple clips holding the shift indicator into the instrument cluster. The other end of the cable is just a loop that goes over a hook on the lever from the shifter.
It's probably easier to do the job than explain it
