This is cool

A while back there was an issue of Flying magazine that talks about a aircraft called the Diamond DA40 Twinstar. This dosen't have the typical light aircraft engine that the original design dates from the 60's. This aircraft had two 1.7L I-4 turbo charged Thielert diesels developing 135hp each. I checked out the website for these Centurion Engines and this is what I found.
A 4.0L V-8 diesel developing 350hp at takeoff, that at 2,300 rpm. With guesss what torque? 786 ft Lbs.
Shove it cummins, 6.4L you've been beat by a longshot before you've even entered production. Duramax, see ya.
I think it would be cool to have one of these german diesels in a Ford.
Runs on Jet fuel (kerosene) or Diesel fuel.
I couldn't get my fine computer to post the link.
google Thielert.

If you look on the international truck web site the DT444 runs on JP8 (jet fuel) or diesel fuel or B20 biodiesel. http://www.internationaltruck.com/si...t466detail.asp

One problem though, choke that engine down with emissions and see were and see happens with the HP and torque. The exhaust pretty much dumps after the turbo.

Emissions, that would probally drop the numbers, of course running BD or VO would make it completely carbon neutral.

Anyway, just though you all might like to hear about this engine.

Guys y'all might already know, but the only diffrence beween JP8 and normal diesel is JP8 is mostly karosen. It works well, but tends to dry out seals. this info may not be totally true, just what my old Motorpool Seargent told me.
