I have a 1978 ford bronco i bought for a parts truck but now i want to run it in the woods and on the rocks. the owner before me cut out ALL wiring under the hood. is there any way for me to wire a push button start and a kill switch and wire everything under the hood. if there is anyone near me that would beable to help it would be awsome.
I would go take a look at painlesswiring.com . You can get a complete harness for a bronco or a universal kit with whatever accessories you want. It's best to not start rigging stuff up, so unless you have a good amount of experience with DC electrical I would recommend just getting a kit, so you don't have to worry about the very real threat of a fire.
Last week I was eating at the chowhall on base when some Marine's 85ish Bronco caught fire because of rigged up wiring and was totaled.
it can be done i put a wire harness together for a mudbuggy i built give me some time and i'll see if i can get you an idea of how to build one yourself i didnt use push buttons tho i bought a cheap key switch and put in mine
It all depends on your level of confidence in wiring though. Wiring basics are pretty easy, but DC theory can get a little complicated, and it takes good technique to make a quality harness that you know isn't going to start a fire.
if you have a ben franklin and some change go to one of the sponsers here tmeyer, inc and buy a hei distibutor for your ford then you can take the 2miles of wire under the hood and throw it away because you'll only need one wire for the motor and hook the starter up directly to the battery via a toggle switch on the dash
that is what i wanted to do with it jsut a few wire and then get it running agian but my damned roomies went and striped everything off the motor but the heads i jsut found it yesterday with only a waterpump and heads. im about to kill them both told them they have till this weekend to get everything and put it back on or they are buying a crate motor.
You can certainly lay out your own wiring if you want to keep it very simple, just be careful to include circuit protection on everthing, and use the appropriate type/gauge of wiring.
