I got my kids windsor rebuild running- my first....however...
it recently came to me to recheck rocker arms and sure enough my roller tip rockers are not even close to being centered on the valve. They extend to far to the outside- and it does not approach center when compressed- makes good contact with valve tip but not square- it will run but wondering what damage i will do if i break the cam in while waiting for 1.6 rockers and the right pushrod measuring tool. I have two- one short and one long.
For reference i have an 84 block- '65 289 heads with 3/8 stud. The rockers are pro-comp 1.7- take off of comp magnum roller tip.
a guy is helping me tune and break it in in 9 hours so input is appreciated- especially as to the risk of running it for a half hour or so. I'm in a tight window to have the help.
also- i went with the stock cam and with the heads I'm at 9:1 CR- one of the reasons I went with 1.7 rockers was to get a bit more lift- maybe I just need to focus on the right push rod length??
I know you don't want to hear this, but don't run the engine for break in until you get this sorted out. It will damage the valve guides rather quickly.
