What's up gang? I've been lurking around for a while and finally gave up hope and decieded to save face and ask.I'm in the process of installing an AOD transmission in my 78 F-150 2WD. While physically it all bolts into place..... I'm just want to know if anyone else has done it and if there were any problems what were they? Were they simple to remedy? Thanks for any and all input yall can give in advance.
Make sure you get the TV cable hooked up properly. The radius from the carb throttle shaft to the TV cable attachment point and pull angle is critical. If the cable pull is not perfect the tranny may be damaged.
That's the biggie, the TV linkage tells the tranny when to shift so it has to be right.I have an AOD in my 79 and it took a couple of tries to get it right. You need to get the full range of movement on the trans.Get the linkage adjusted so the trans lever moves through it's range with the throttle from closed to WOT.I love the AOD,it makes the old truck a lot more enjoyable.
Thanks Guys for the info. The only thing is the trans is out of my 85' Lincoln Mark 7(Professionally Rebuilt and installed ) and it has a rod instead of a cable like the later models. The engine came out of an 89 5.0 Mustang and it has stood up to the demands of my foot thus far. Will the rod have the same issues if I never move it's position?
