How will a 1990 f-250 7.3 diesel react to changing the E40D automatic out for a zf 5 speed overdrive tranny? Will my pickup become doggie or will i still have decent power to pull light loads and drive on the highway at 70 mph?
Hi , putting the manual into your truck will make it tow better . You'll be able to put trans in what gear you want To keep RPM's right.. Instead of having the auto shifting in and out when it wants to. I found that when towing / driving a manual helps with MPG . I go along in 4 -5 gear where the auto was kicking in and out of passing gear. Good luck

I am going to put the manual in because the auto is shot and i am on a budget. I have a couple parts pickups. To my knowledge all the manual trans pickups came with 4.10s and the autos came with 3.55. Does anybody know what my pickup will be like with the 5 speed manual and 3.55s?
Transmission had no effect on gear ratio. You could have either one - check your door jamb sticker. 35 = 4.10, 39 = 3.55. If it's a letter in the first position, it's limited slip.
okay so i got the swap done truck performs great with one small problem. intermittenly when you push the pedle down there is a sweak a metal on metal squeak. if you really baby the pickup it starts go away but if you drive it hard it comes back. now we had to have the rear drive shaft made longer the shop that did only told us to pull it out one inch and measure center to center of u- joints to me that doesn't seem like enough could this be pushing on something and causing my squeak when its under a heavier thrust load. i was wondering if anyone had any ideas for me.
