i did take a picture, not sure how to post it yet.
where oh where can i find out what engine size i really have?
The old Y-block 292,272,312 engines are easily recognized by the valve covers and the exhaust manifolds. The valve covers were held down by two nuts in top of the cover. The exhaust manifolds both have a pipe running to each other in the front, and the passenger side manifold has the only pipe running out the rear. The 352 and 390 both say "352" on the right front of the engine. Also they have 6 bolts holding down each valve cover positioned around the outside edge of the covers. These things are true about any of these engines I have ever seen, but I've been wrong before.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Mar-02 AT 00:27 AM (EST)]the big question was what engine i really had.
got the truck to idle, and can gun it, but when i put i in gear to go
it stalls. hard to get strated after that. checked the point
and they where closed all the time. set them to aruound 17.
that helped but it still stalls. gonna try and put on a new fuel pump and filter. not sure where to go from here. looked at other posts,
alot talked about the float level? the cab tag says c4tf ae a4db
which i think is a autolite 2100. but not sure.
b-hunter make sure you put some fresh gas in the tank. If the truck has sat for an extended period the gas has probably gone stale. If the exhaust smells like something you made in woodshop (varnish) it has to be drained and the fuel lines cleared. If you know the gas is OK then check your firing order. The engine will run with the wrong firing order but make no power at all.
