well i have been reading alot of great information and am glad i found this site. here is my problem. i already have my 460 cobra jet done and now im still stuck with a few things. i bought an engine swap crossmember for my 460 and the year of my truck (64 f100) from paw, but what headers will fit? also i have taken out the front suspention and still cant figure out what rack and pinion set up to install. will that crossmember from fatmans work? or do i need to pull one out of another car/truck and rebuild it and modify that setup? also when i convert to disks where in the hell am i going to put the power booster and master? i just want to do it right the first time and make it look good at the same time!!! anyone that has done this or knows how it should be done please contact me.!!!
Hi, Well from my experience, I just got done dropping a 460 into my 65 F-100, replacing my inline 6. I had bought the crossmember from paw, but them decided to try their 460 v8 swap kit. It worked great complete bolt in. Since you have the 64 f-100 you could try their Big Block Ford to Ford Pickup Kit, Part # TDP-4685, Page 1146 in their 2002 catalog, price $75.95. Like I said this is from my experience only..But for me it worked like a charm, maybe someone with a little more experience can add to this...Just my 2 cents.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Mar-02 AT 12:20 PM (EST)]The engine when installed should leave enough room to install the power brake booster and master cylinder. Look for early to mid 70's truck booster/master cylinders. There are a few different styles of them for the same year. They look like a dirrect bolt on. As for the aftermarket suspension, all of the places I have called said their system WOULDN'T work on our year truck (58-64). The stock suspension should be able to with stand the weight of the engine. Not to mention the disk setup from ECI is dirt cheap ($329 whole or $100 basic) Unless you are wanting the updated steering. YOu should look at some of the older postings. I believe a few people have grafted a AeroStar front end on there truck. Just the lug bolt pattern will be 4 1/2 vise 5 1/2. Also when it comes to the mounts what are you using for the trans? The orininal front and rear engine mounts may not clear the new engine unless you mount it higher between the rails. I have contemplated with removing the after cross member but don't know how much stress will be put on the frame afterwards. Can you temp install the eninge for clearances? Might be a good idea to check to see what you are going to have to modify or cut. These are a bunch of things I have had to go back and look at for my truck. The previous owner slapped in the universal mount not taking into concideration future additions ie brake booster.
that kit thats out of paw is only up to 351 i think??? on those headers did they clear your steering box and if so is it stock and did you have to relocate it?? thanks for the feedback
I know LMC and JC Whitney both carry the universal engine and transmission mount kits for mounting the 429/460's. If I am not mistaken PAW should also. I haven't recieved my PAW catalog yet so I can't say for sure if they have one or not.
