I am replacing the 302 in my bronco with a 351w.The 351 was in a standard trans car before and now I want to put it into my auto bronco. Will I be able to use the fly wheel and flex plate off of the 302 or do i need to find a 351 specific flywheel?
It depends on the years of the engines. The flywheel is part of the engine balance and some of them are 28 oz and some are 50 oz. There may be others as well but those are the ones I know of and if you put the wrong one on the engine something will break pretty quickly.
Here's the skinny on the imbalance: all engines in this family used the 28oz. imbalance up till 1981, and then the 302 went to 50oz. while the 351W stayed at 28oz. for the rest of its production life.
So, according to your profile, your Bronc is an '86 which means that its 302 has the 50oz. imbalance and therefore its flexplate isn't compatible with the 351W. You'll need to find a 351W or pre-'81 302 flexplate. But the imbalance is all in the flexplate (and vibration dampner) so you can still use your Bronco's torque converter.
