Hi, I saw in this forum that it's pretty easy to do the high idle modification on a diesel engine when installing a switch between those 2 wires somewhere around the driver's feet. But I need to do it on a 4.6L gas engine in a 1999 f-150 and I can't find the wires. I already search this forum but found nothing about high idle modification on gas engine.
Does somebody knows if it can be done and how to do it?? Thanks a lot!!
I'd imagine, if your TB is similar to the Ranger, you could simply re-adjust the throttle butterfly valve to be slightly open, so it was always idling slightly above...idle.
But what's the point? It won't make a real difference in the gas world. And if you're an auto it'll prolly give you problems.
Hi, Thank you for replying me so fast. I'm a heavy duty mechanic and I often use this F-150 in winter to go jumpstart heavy equipements. I would find it handy if it could be idling faster without having to stay in the truck or put something on the pedal. Other than that, it's true that there is no real good reason to have a gas engine idling so fast and Ford probably didn't set up the wiring to do this modification as easily as on their diesel trucks. I'm gonna look at it and find a way to do it mechanicly (by doing something secure too) and it should work pretty good. I was just asking because a switch would have been nice but anyway... Keep going with this great forum and thanks a lot for your help!!
I used to hate sitting in the truck holding the idle up while I charged the batteries on a big truck but it was still better than laying under the truck with a Tiger Torch heating up the oil in the pan because the driver was too lazy to plug the truck in. grrrr
Next time your Snap On dealer is in take a look at their Brake and Accelerator Pedal Jack. A couple guys in our shop have them and they work well. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....re&dir=catalog
