my 77 150 4x4 has been lifted it has at least 4" springs and some homeade
1.5" blocks up front and some blocks under the rear ??? its way too much
i could fit at least 37's under the truck, the 33's look kinda small ... i dont need
all that i wouldn't mind going back stock w/ some 31's that fill up the wheel well
but dont scrub ... i have found a '78 4x4 to get the componets for this
however it has a dual shock set up ???? would this be an upgrade ????
or just more bother than worth ... it also has a sway bar that would be nice to
put on my truck ...
thanx
The quad shocks and sway bar were part of the "Handling Package" for the F150. The quad shocks probably limit articulation in rugged off road use, but will definitely help on the road, as will the sway bar. Many people would love to get their hands on that setup, but it is hard to come by. Aftermarket sway bar kits are around $200 alone, and I don't know of a quad shock kit for the stock suspension, although there may be some out there, but if so, I doubt there are cheap.
cool...thanx i do mild off roading, nothing extreme ...sounds like what i need
i am going back to some general grabber AT2 31x10.50 ..... i think the springs that are on it right now are making it ride like it dosent have any suspention...
When I went through the suspension on my 77 F150 4x4 I was able to get new springs from the local spring supply house here is Dayton. Everything fit and worked fine until I got my hands on an origional body layout book and found that the new springs in the rear have raised the rear of the truck about 1 1/2 inches over stock height. I haven't measured the front end yet but I have the typical couple of inches rake front to rear so I suspect the front is a little high too. It isn't a big issue but it makes my 31x9:50-15's look kind of small. Check my gallery.

do something quick with those front blocks, they are illegal and dangerous. check with the 4x4 forum, front blocks have been discussed many times there.
Can you read the build plate on the door post? It should list your axles, then use the decoder at the beginning of the this forum to see what ratio you have. Assuming it's stock, of course.

Nah, theyre gonna be some sort of coil spacer for the front, not blocks. Coil spacers are legal and not as dangerous.
to check the gear ratio, check for any axle tags on axles.
Make sure to get the radius arm with the quad shock brackets with the lower spring bracket ( the lower spring bracket has two bolts that mount it to the axle housing). The hole spacing on spring bracket and radius arms are different then the single shock radius arm setup.
Since the front bracket is coming off, be a good time to add a set of new C-bushings .
Clean off the threads with radius arm bracket and C-bracket with a wire brush and spray plenty of rust inhibitor oil on threads.

they are spacers just solid steel cut to size and a bolt through them ...all that crap has to go ... i think the springs are compressed to much because of the spacers
it has no articulation at all ...none makes for a terrible ride ,
i am going to go through the whole front end while I am at it bushings seals you name it ... i am going to take every thing from the other truck ... go over it with an abrasive disk and paint it w/ eastwood epoxy undercarrige paint
skyjacker shocks, maybe a new diff cover for the dana .. !!!!!
at least get rid of stupid welded spider gears !!!!!!!! a real ******* had this truck before me ...
Make sure the shocks are correct size for the amount of lift.
I installed leveling coils on my 1976 F150 4x4, I use the truck for four wheeling too. The truck has 31 inch tires and the dual shock setup. I didn't want the stabilizer bar because it would not have the articulation over the water bars.
This is what I did to the front end:
Parts installed: PowerTrax Lock Right lockers, Two (2) Axle Housing Seals, Spicer U-joints for axles (left and right side), Spindle bearings, Spindle bearing Seals, New hub and rotors (Both sides), New inner and outer wheel bearing (both sides), inner wheel seals (both sides), brake pads, upper and lower ball joints, 75W90 gear oil, front cover gasket, five (5) cans of brake kleener, five cans of Rustoleum Rust Performer black, disc brake wheel bearing grease, & O-ring seals on hub.
Installed new front coils with 1 1/2 inch lift, new C-bushings, new track arm bushings, and New Radius Arm Bushings (Energy Suspension System). Installed the Two shock per side setup on front axle off a 1978 Ford Bronco 4x4. Installed Rancho 5000 shock absorbers.
Swapped out all the 1976 steering components for brand new 1978 steering components (pitman arm for a 1978, drag link, left tie rod end, right tie rod end, and adusting sleeve).
The project took some time locating parts, prepping, painting and installation, but was very well worth it.
