I have a 94 f-250 with 460, E4OD tranny with 130000 miles on it. It wants to shift early and lug the engine. It will also take its time down shifting. I noticed this only with a 6000 # trailer hooked up to the hitch and on windy hilly roads, slower speeds (10-50mph). The fluid is normal level and changed about 5000 miles ago. I also noticed a few times my speedometer dropping down to 0 and popping back up to speed. Is it possible some type of speed sensor is bad and if so where is it located. without a trailer it seems normal.
Thanks. I was hoping it would cause it. I didnt want to put a new tranny in. I noticed there is a wire going into the diff housing, it's kind of offset to the driver side. is that the VSS.
The one in the rear end is for the RABS (rear antilock brakes) not the trans. The VSS is on the transmission. the spedo cable travels through the center then into the spedo gear and the whole thing slips into the tranny. It has 2 wires going into it. I belive they quit using then in 92 and later models. In other words, leave the rear end alone. It has nothing to do with the trans. That one is for the brakes.
If you say so. I however know better. Prove me wrong or prove to me your right.
Ill prove you wrong. I pulled out the sensor to check it and see if i could clean anything. I got it back in and forgot to plug it back in. I took off this morning and i had no speedo, ABS light was on, And it shifted very hard into all gears. If thats not proof i don't know what is. I checked for other sensors on tranny and found non. Ill be buying new sensor tomorrow. It maybe that way on other cars but not my truck.
You've got me curious now. Perhaps in an indirect way it can make a transmission. Much the same way having a cracked plug on my rig made my transmission act up. New plugs and wires cleared up everything. I'll do some more looking and keep ya posted.
