Over the past few weeks a noise has developed under the truck. After i drive it and it gets warm, I'm starting to hear what sounds to be like warping metal.
Sounds like the noise that would come from taking a huge piece of sheet metal and twisting it. It is very loud and very noticeable.
It only happens when the truck gets hot. It happens every few minutes while driving, and countinues for about an hour after driving.
My initial guess is that the exhaust system is getting hot and warping when it gets really hot and also when it cools down.
I don't know what else it could be. And if it is the exhaust, why now? Something loose maybe??
It's the muffler. I've heard mine do it when cooling down in the driveway. It sounds like a big oil can popping. Others have had the same noise. Some even had the muffler replaced when still under warranty. As to why it is happening now and not before, I don't know. Maybe it was and you never noticed it. But now that you've noticed it, you always hear it.
Well, it would do it before, ever since i bought the truck new. But it was VERY Minimal. Just sounded like ordinary cooling down noises. Only in the last month has it been REALLY Loud. I can hear it sometimes sitting inside my house when it's out in the driveway!
Truck is out of warranty. Muffler and exhaust system seems fine. Totally quite other than the warping/popping noise. No leaks at all.
