Looks like I will be getting an 03 Excursion EB within the next week or so. It has 72k on it with the 6.0L. I ran a carfax and all looked well. Talked to the owner and he indicated that it is in good mechanical condition with nothing major done to it. I haven't physically seen it yet but will in a week or so. Looking through the forums it seem that the 6.0L is either a love or hate relationship. What are things I need to look for when inspect the vehicle? Thanks for the help.
Shriner,
I think you are right about being overstated, yes there is problems with the 6.0 but how many 6.0s no matter what year has had turbo or EGR issuses.
The meat of the motor seems to be great.
Not all but I think you will find most headgasket problems was when the boost was increased by mods.
Look under thread 6.0s with over 100000 miles and you will see alot of 03s
I bougt an 03 X with the 6.0 several months ago and I could not be happier with the vehicle. I heard nothing but horror stories and was very worried I would have major problems. The Turbo was replaced under warranty at 10,000 miles and thats it. My family and I just took a trip from California to Montana and it ran perfect. During that trip I averaged 19 mpg (hand calculated). IMHO I think the 6.0 had problems early on but with the updates completed all is good.
So far so good. Got it home from Knoxville TN to OKC (800 mi) and it got 19.5 mpg doing 75 mph.....not bad. I towed 8,500lbs from OKC to Lake of the Ozarks with no problem. Mileage on the 350 mi trip was 10 mpg doing 60-65 mph. Will start home from Lake of the Ozarks tomorrow morning. This is a stock Ex 6.0L. Plan on upgrades later this month.
I am tickled to death with it. Nicest vehicle I have ever owned in my life. And this says a lot because I have had Trans Ams, IROC Zs, Corvettes, Cadillacs, Crown Victorias, Grand Prixs, Olds 442, F150s, Conversion Vans, etc....
