I just got a 2001 F-250 7.3 Diesel for my graduation in may and i have had transmission problems ever since i had it. The guy that had it before me had a chip in it and it burned out resulting in a new controller and new sensors. After all that was fixed it will shift so hard in 2nd and 3rd gear it will knock me forwards and backwards in my seat. its so bad i barely made it home. the temp runs at about 210 sometimes but i will turn it off before it gets to that point. I live in Gulfport Hattiesburg and Columbia so it has to go through to many traffic lights before i can get to us 49. i am almost out of options someone please help. God Bless!
Is your fluid burnt? May want to check to see if the correct filter is in the pan, and if it is check to see if it is still seated into the valvebody. My troubleshooter tells me that it is a common problem with similar symptoms.
yeah i think it does have the right filter, it did leak real bad along time ago and it was just serviced bout a month or 2 but i did check it today and it smelled burned very badly it did heat up real fast from 100 to 150 in 4 miles. its supposed to be checked next week
Get that fluid outta there post haste! (converter too)
You might want to flush it a couple of times before road testing. I had a burnt fluid situation when I bought the truck. Shifting was sluggish and erratic. I did 3 full fluid changes in one sitting and so far, it has managed to save the tranny. I think I cought it right as she turned.
Another thing to consider is the cooler. If anything bad happened within the transmission it now resides in the cooler. You do a fluid change and then the cooler lets loose of its payload....mind's well not have even changed the fluid.
