ebpv re-connect

Early 99 F350 Auto CC 4X4

Just put my turbo back on, but man O man getting into the space to connect the EBPV actuating arm to the pin is a pain in the A$$! I was fudging! I counted the turns on the old EBPV actuating rod and put the new one on witt the same amount of turns. The original one I took off had no locking nut. The rebuild kit came with one. I hand tightened the nut and couldnt get the arm to reach the pin? Cant seem to pull or prod it into the right space for the pin to drop in? I had to take the turbo off again to get at the locking nut loose so I could adj at will. It was just tight enough I couldnt loosen it. SO now I have the Turbo torqued back on and thats it. Still trying to fit the actuating arm to the pin on the waste gate. I assume this is where I went wrong? I should have done this as a complete unit meaning pedestal and Turbo as one unit measuring the spring load with a 0.01 gauge at 10lbs! Any other suggestions or is it possible to do as a two piece assembly? In advance Thanks!

It sounds like you are trying to reconnect the wastegate. It's much easier to get the linkage on if you pressurize the canister with about 10 psi. Then when the rod is adjusted to the proper length it will drop right on to the lever while it's in the closed position.

Closed position

You mean "closed postion" when the tab with the pin on it seats to the body of the waste gate? Leaving the waste gate open correct?

So are you talking about the wastegate acutator, or the EBPV actuator? Wastegate actuator is the gold canister on the top of the turbo. EBPV actuator is under the turbo, on the passenger side, and part of the pedistal. Sorry if you already knew, just want to be sure we're all on the same page here.

If it is indeed the EBPV, I had to have the turbo loose to get the pin to drop into the arm. There just wasn't enough clearance to get the pin in place with the turbo tightened down.

Yes its the EBPV actuating arm. Not the waste gate actuater as I so stated earlier (brain Fart?). What I did since the last post. I pulled the turbo and pedestal back off. I bench built it back together and did the correct 10lb spring test adjustment on the arm for adjustment. I should have done it when I had it off the forst time but in my haste I put the rebuilt pedestal back on with the actuatuing arm screwed on as the one that came off by counting the turns it had on the old one when I took it off. Difference was the rebuild kit came with a lock nut and JTHARVEY Thanks for some input! I twisted it on by hand. I will be dang if I could get it to back off after I installed the turbo on the pedestal. So that s the reason for taking it all back off and doing the spring test on the actuating arm. But where I am right now is this time I tied a heavy gauge wire to the nut on the thread side so I could pull it over by hand to drop the pin in and slide the clip over. I havent tried it as a buddy came by and he was so interested in my topsider creeper I lost track of time and I will get back at it in the morning. If that doesnt work then I may back the turbo off like you did and attach it that way if that works. Fussy little peice or I am approaching it wrong???
Again Thanks for your input!

Any way you can get it will work. It's a fussy little piece, for sure. I had mine on, and accidentaly pulled it out when I was putting my turbo back on (well, one of the several anyway). It took me quite a bit of fussing with it to finally get it back in place. A few choice words were said, and it finally dropped back into place.
