I have a 91 with 5 spd, suppose my battery died and I was on a hill, I don't believe I could start it by rolling down the hill and popping the clutch, would I then be smart to deactivate this function? Just thinking ahead
87 XLT is right, the clutch interupt switch only has to do with the stater cranking circuit, not with the actual engine running.
But if you battery dies you are not going to get started anyways as you need battery power to run the fuel pump and ignition / fuel injection.
It is however a help to be able to pop the clutch while rolling if your starter dies from that last big mud pit though.
Personally, I don't like extra switches and such, I have always bypassed any clutch pedal switches. I figure as a thinking, licensed driver I should be able to figure out not to try and start my vehical in gear!
On my 83 it was a switch mounted on a bracket by the clutch pedal arm. All it did was break contact when the pedal was not all the way down. A quick splice took care of that.
