Is it hard to change the gears? Is it easier to change the whole carrier, rather than ring and pinion? Can you do it with the rear on the truck? I have a 5.87:1 on my new truck and I just have to get it higher, for drivablility. What can I do?

It's a 1965 F350 10 ft flatbed Dually, Dana 70 rear (I think) 5.87:1, 6 cyl (rebuilt 300?), 4 speed w/granny gear, 16 inch wheels. In fourth by 20 MPH, tops out around 45-48 MPH - Thanks, Jim

a newer dana 70 would bolt in up to 72 later would have to measure your spring perches if you get me a measurement on sping perch width and back plate to back plate i can verify it to my newer 350
to be sure it fit or may be a slight modification but you can change out ring and pinion while its in the truck 5 speed out of a later f series would help also from a 300 302 doner truck

Spring perch about 2 inches wide, perch starts about 3 inches in from brake backplate. backplate to backplate looks like about 48 inches. No shocks on back of truck, just leaf springs, is this unusual? Thanks so much for the help.

Brett - How did the gear swap go altogether? What steps were involved? Was it hard?
