When I am coming to a stop it seems like the top of the truck is lunging forward until I stop and then it settles back down. Is this normal or is there something I can do to fix this. Its not really bad, but just noticeable.
If I'm understanding you correctly, every car & truck will "lunge" forward when stopping.
The vehicle has momentum as you are braking. While the tires & brakes are trying to slow everything down, the rest of your truck wants to keep on going. The end result is that your front suspension will squat down with the change in momentum. This in turn lifts the rear up a bit.
Watch at stop lights...especially for those people that brake hard. You'll see them come to a stop & the back of their car/truck to settle 3 inches or so.
That I realize. When I come to a stop just before I stop it feels like the suspension or brake calipers are moving just a little and then settle back down when I stop completely. Does that make any since?
2001 F250 7.3 4x4 CC Flatbed. That would make sense since I believe they need to be changed. The steering is a little loose and it was looser before I greased everything up. As far as the thump goes, I will have to listen for it next time.
Jack the truck up so the front wheels are off the ground, then using a pry bar under the tire, see if the tire wiggles top and bottom (Towards and away from the motor) If this is the case, it's time to change the ball joints... There is an excellent write up in the tech folder at the top of the Super Duty page. Let us know how you make out. Also, how many miles on the truck?
Great info! I will have to do that tonight. It has 176,500 miles on it and it looks like someone used it for plowing. It also has a massive front bumper on it.
What year is your truck. My 2006 v6 explorer does the same thing. The dealer and a ford tech informed me that, that is a normal property of the vehicle. Lame explanation if you ask me. I'll never buy a ford again.
