aux audio input jack?
Doug, thanks for the info. The PIE adapter is a harness that connects to the rear of the radio that has an AUX button which allows an auxilarry input, like an ipod. Sounds like Ford is making something similar - the PIE adapter retails for about $85. Of course, you still need somebody to take the dash apart and hook it up to the rear of the radio. A local shop is charging $75 to do that, good chance Ford would charge more for that labor.
FM Transmitter
I use an Fm transmitter in my truck and I love it. I am a contractor and when I get to the job site I can tune in my site radio to 88.1 and listen to the Ipod thats in my truck, but the down side is it takes more volume to listen to it in the truck. made the mistake of putting in CD before lowering volume and needless to say still cant get the skid marks out of my drawers
Venturerwes - you need the PIE adapter for the 05 there is no aux input from the factory. The first year was 07 for the aux input jack.

KevinM, Thanks for the link, I was wondering what that thing looked like. I found a shop that works on radios for some of the local Ford dealers that charges $150 for the PIE adapter & installation which includes runing an earbud jack into my glovebox.
I just bought an '06 Screw w/ the Sirius radio OEM. Didn't like the Sirius programming and had an XM in my old F250, so I called PIE and discussed with them.
Yesterday in about 1 hour, I pulled the trim panel over the radio, disconnected the Sirius unit from the data plug on the back of the radio, hooked up the PIE unit, hardwired the PIE and a connector for my XM Roady and put everything back together. I know I'll take some grief, but I put the antenna on the dash temporarially until I decide where I want it. I still get three bars and great reception except under bridges, etc. The AUX button works and shows "PIE" on the radio input. Scan doesn't work but the steering column volumn works just fine and so do the other controls, such as the volume increase when you speed up.
I setup the XM in my ash tray something like "LAFD" did on his setup (Not sure of his name, but do a search and you can find it.). Close the ash tray and you wouldn't know the XM unit is there. I can also connect my Creative lab Zen to the jack and play it through the car radio just as you would an Ipod. CD and all other stuff works as normal.

Drhuntr, Thanks for the DIY update, was it much of a problem getting the trim panel off the radio? I assume that's the large panel that surrounds the radio? It's a big piece of fake woodgrain in my King Ranch that I poked around with but figured I break it before I removed it.
No real problem getting the trim off. Open the ash tray and pry gently starting at the bottom. There are six pop in catches that came out easily when pried. Be careful if you use a screw driver to pad the edge of the dash panel so you don't leave any marks. Just "pops off". I started at the bottom and popped the two bottom catches first and worked my way up. Re-installed in the reverese order and gave it a good smack to seat properly.
There are several cable bundles that can be uhhooked to set the trim panel aside once it is removed. Be carefull removing the plugs so they don't break and make sure to label them so you know what goes where for reassembly and you will have no problems. Make sure you alot plenty of time to do the job so you don't have to rush.
