i have been told that the whicked wheel will actually cost me a little juice but is it noticeable??? and i have also heard that increases low end throttle response - is this true??
no, i dont think it's true. the only benefits i see is help relieving compressor stall, and the sound. someone who was trying to sell you one of them told you how it increases performance. it actually decreases it some at the cost of not having surge.
Eric, I don't know because I don't have one but I've done a bunch of reading on it. The "sound" should just be a louder turbo whistle. Some say customers didn't like the loud origonal wheel. As a result, we have the wheel we do today. I was on a site that sells a WW and they had a big note that said "This is not a performance mod". I lost interest. If it won't gain horsepower, it ain't worth my $100.00. Others that have it claim no surging and quicker spooling but mines pretty darn quick as it is. $.02
you either have a stock truck, and tow, or a tuned truck, and no towing. obviously you havent experienced compressor surge. once you feel it, you will either spend $430 on a new compressor housing, or the $55 on a wicked wheel to fix it. DO NOT buy it from some place that charges $100 for the same thing that can be found at Xtreme diesel for about $55
Forgive me... I'm not sure I understand your "stock truck towing vs. tuned truck not towing". Not that it matters but I tow and I'm mildly "tuned" and I have no trouble. Perhaps I haven't experienced compressor surge. Perhaps I have and i just don't know it. For $55.00 might be woth looking into.
do i have one... what? do i have a wicked wheel, do i have one question, what?
i mean you either have a stock tuned truck that tows, but doesnt generate enough boost to make the compressor surge. or, you have a modified truck but you don't load it down with a trailer to make it work.
yes i have the WW, and i have an ATS Compressor shroud on backorder just because of the sound and the 4" intake.
I got WW for mine for two reasons one was surge when I was towing my 20,000lb fifth wheel. Two the stock wheel was dusted due to the original owner running it with a busted air box that let unfiltered air into the turbo. If you ever had surge you would know it. I've not noticed any decrease in performance, but this maybe due to the fact the old wheelwas pretty banged up.

Sorry, I was asking if you have a WW. Sounds like you like it! My truck's not built at all compared to some of these guys! So perhaps I'm ill-experienced with the surge you talk about. I'm going to check out Xtreme Diesel. If only $55.00, why not right? I assume you installed it yourself? Thanks for your input!
Has anyone had any issues with installing the WW and not having the turbo balanced. It just seems to me that for something that spins that fast, just a "touch" out of balance would be deadly to the turbo. When I ordered my chip from Jody we discussed this and he recommended the ATS housing over the WW. I know that there is HUGE difference in price between the ATS housing and the WW and that is the motivating factor for alot of folks. Not to mention the fact that the ATS has been backorded for a long time now. I guess I'll stay here on the fence on this WW issue for a little while longer! LOL
