Ok, I've been a long time lurker on this website for probably over a year and a half now. You guys on here helped me decided what vehicle I wanted to purchase and I wanted to say thanks. I wouldnt want to own any other truck. I have a 2005 supercab F-250 6.0. Now my question you everyone is where do you dump your used oil after an oil change? I am near 19k and tired of driving to the dealer to pay $84 for an oil change. I want to do it myself which shouldnt be hard. I just need to find the proper disposal facility here in Tampa. I was thinking discount (advance auto) but i dunno if they will take 15 quarts of oil at once. Any suggestions?
just like he said..Advance Auto..that's where i take mine. I just fill the gallon jugs up with the used oil when i'm done and take it back in them.
Here the limit of oil that Advance auto will take is 5 gallons.
If you dont have one near by check with your local auto parts store...many of them are now taking used oil.
I have a local NAPA store that does and an O'Riely Auto Parts store that does as well.
They only accept 5 gallons at a time so the professional mechanic doesn't drop off their used oil there... but for the "average joe" it is a great way to do it and protect the environment.
At times, when I change my garden tractor, truck and other toys, I have to make two stops... one at each auto parts store so noone complains about how much oil I have to recycyle.
I dump mine at the local city office/shop... They always seem a bit surprised when I show up a couple times a year with 20-25 gallons but just ask me to sign the log-in sheet.
Down the drain in the street where the grate is...isn't that what its for?....ok not really but beside the auto parts store I have used it to mix with herbicides around the dirt drive or emulsified with water to keep down dust...i know they charge to do that commercially but I'm sure if you do it on your own its illeagal.
Our county landfill accepts used oil. Ya just dump it in their barrels....and they have a big drum right next to it to throw away the old plastic containers.
