Horn broke. Nice loud 'click', tried cleaning all the connections again, that fixed it one time, maybe I banged a bit on the horn too, don't remember. How can I isolate the relay? Can I hook 12 volts straight to the horn itself?
You can hook 12 volts straight to the horn but make sure you put a fuse in line with it. That way the fuse will blow and not your battery if the horn is bad.
Hm, OK that makes sense. Seems to me maybe the horn might have froze up after a wash or something like that. I'll take a look at it today. Gotta have a working horn!
Going to the horn does two things. First it isolates the relay, then it checks for a bad horn or horn ground. If it works then hook up a meter to the relay and check for continuity between the contacts. If it is good start looking for a break or corrosion in the wiring.
Well, I removed the horn from the engine bay and looked it over. Hooked it up to an extra 12 volt battery, not a peep, just a click.
Hm. Figuring I don't have anything to lose, I shot a few second
bursts of WD-40 down the chute, making sure it made it's way inside. Shook it around and let it set a minute, and smacked it around a bit. Hit it with WD-40 again, and hooked 'er up.
Woah! Thing sounds like the Queen Mary now, and I got a good spray of WD all over the place... I'll call it fixed, thanks!
