'06 vs. '07 Powerstroke

My Dad is considering trading in his '99 F-250 4x4 PS SC for a similarly equipped '06 before the '07's come out with the new 6.4L running ultra-low-sulfer only fuel (we are farmers and sometimes run ag (dyed) fuel).

Does Ford have the bugs worked out of the 6.0? Is there any indication that they have their act together with the upcoming 6.4L? Is the 6.4 even ready for '07? We have always run manuals, but are considering the auto since it was built specifically to handle the 6.0. Has the auto established an acceptable track record?

Looking for any experienced advise with the '06 trucks, specifically with a 6.0 Diesel and automatic tranny. I'm not aware of any significant changes to the '07 F-350 chassis.

The 6.0 is a great motor. Mine never had any "bugs". Some have had their share of probs but when you sell as many as there are out there you are bound to have a few that have some problems. The good ones FAR exceed the ones with problems. 07 is still the 6.0. The MY08 will have the 6.4 in it and it isn't out yet and it has been a very hush hush project so there really isn't much info about it. The 07's will be ULSF only. These to my knowledge will not use AG diesel and if it were on the road is against the law anyway. The torqueshift transmission in my experience, has been great. This was my first auto and I don't know if I would go back as long as the auto is this good. There aren't too many transmission problems out there.

mt 2006 is great, though i just have 600 miles on it. my previous 2004 had 44k trouble free miles.

if your going to get a new truck, i beleive this is the time to do it, lots of great deals on them right now.

as far as the 6.0........boy, you will here some opinions on that! i never had any trouble, lots of people never had any trouble, but then there are those that had and had them badly.

any reason why to trade in the 99? i would keep it personnly, i was looking for an older 7.3 but darn, i couldn't find any that didn't have less than 100k on them. but unless of course your dad wants new!
