I like the looks of the 66 better, but the 68 has a lot more leg room.Other then that, they're pretty similar under the skin. Also at least in my area, it's easier for me to find original parts for my 67-72 trucks then my 61-66 trucks.
what year did they change the body style so that the fenders were not flared anymore?
I own a 66 and know that up to 61 they are the same, but didnt know how recent I could go and get the same body parts.
Randy, 61 thru 66 body parts fit. The differences will be minor, some molding clips on the door gasket and smme rubber bumper mounting for the hood. The upper grill piece and hood latch are alittle different on the 61 thru 64. The main difference is the inner fenders and radiator core support. 61 thru 64 are the same, 65 and 66 are unique, but 65 and 66 can be interchanged with each other, its just a minor PITA.

But what I was getting at, is when did they change the body style of the front fenders from the flared/styleside look, to the straight simple look of the 70's trucks?
I agree with Steve, 67 and up trucks are much easier and cheaper to get aftermarket parts for and more popular when you sell them. That being said, I still like my 66 better because of the looks and because you don't see as many.
I'm slanted towards the '66. The '66 was the best of the 61-66 series (my opinion!!!)because it has all the improvements Ford could make to this series. It is easy to upgrade to V8, automatic, PS,PB, Discs, etc.. and it is more unusual. The 68 was a early year of the 67-72 series, the '72 would be the most advanced of this group for the same reason. Either is a good truck, it should come down to condition and price. A clean 68 is a much better choice than a rusty or trashed 66, the same the other way around too! The '68 is easier to find factory air conditioning parts for, by the way, if you are looking for this upgrade..
Mark, I don't know how anyone else can answer that question for you. If you are down to the visual, you only can choose. Better yet buy them both, have twice as much fun.
