it has been working fine since I got the truck, so it is over 4 years now, i have not changed anything on it, it just started acting up all the sudden, and I did not do anymodifications.
darn door ajar light wont go away, and dome and bed lights stays on, but I realized that once I turn the head lights on door ajar light goes away and dome and bed lights turns off.... I tried W-D40....any suggestions .....best way the find which door is the problem one? or what else could be the problem since door ajar light goes away when I turn lights on?
.....By the way I have after market alarm.
NOW every time I open my rear doors, the taillights fuse gets blown, no lights in my instrument cluster, unless I put a new fuse.
When I had trouble with mine, the WD-40 worked well. I think yours goes deeper than the door switch. My headlights had no effect on whether the door ajar light was on or not. With mine, it was easy to figure out which door, it was the drivers door and I knew this because it was the only door that got opened during the time of the problem. Can't see any reason for the doors being opened blowing a taillight fuse. Does it blow the fuse with the taillights off? I would lean towards the light switch shorting out, especially since the door ajar lights go out when headlights go on. Only other thing that comes to mind would be the aftermarket alarm. Does it flash your lights when armed? Does it turn on your interior lights? Can you unhook it a try it? Just thinking of things you may can check.
I agree with ZX. I don't think yours is the typical door ajar light problem, Take a look at the headlight switch. The taillight flaming would be my clue. I would also check your trailer wiring at the back of the truck. May be a chaffed wire of some sort or a bad ground back there. It may be a wild goose chase but I would look into it.
As far as the typical door ajar light or dome light staying on problem, it is very common on Explorers and Rangers dating back to the early 90's. From what I have seen the problem is more common on vehicles that are driven with the window(s) open, particularly with smokers who may keep the windows cracked when it's raining. Water gets inside the door and corrodes the switch. I suspect it also occurs over time as the window seals begin to degrade. Anyway, a good maintenance item on these trucks is to treat the door latches when changing oil.
Same thing with my truck, 2001 F-350, 4X4, also started happening with my cousins 2003 F-250. Definately the drivers door, after about a mile or two of driving if goes away. I will try the contact cleaner in the door jam then post the results. Hope it works......

It should, I used WD-40 and make sure you get it inside and all around the inside of the latching parts. I used the little tube to better aim the spray.
I spray mine through the openings in the door jam and the through openings in the handle from the outside. Ensures good coverage from more than one angle.
thanks for the replies, I will look into light switch like zx250 suggested,it blows the fuse only when taillight is on, I will definatly look into light switch. but I checked trailer wiring seems to be ok.thank you for responses, this weekend I need to actually I have solve the problem.
Well I spend 5 hours over the weekend, still could not find the problem, switches checked out ok, VSM is ok, some reason one of the back door switch cable causes taillight fuse to blow, it is very hard to trace those cables and it was getting dark I just unplugged backdoor jam switches and took the dome lights off, least now I have my taillights working and started getting used to driving with door ajar light on.
Man that sounds like it is a tuff one..Do you feel your light switch is OK? If it is not the switch, it would seem that it would have to be related to the light switch since it only blows the fuse with taillights are on..?? Have you ruled out the aftermarke alarm. Since most alarms are tied into the interior lights and also flash the taillights it may be the problem. If you haven't already done it, you may want to totally disconnect the alarm and try that.
Another thing to check is were the wires go into the door. They are always moving when you open and close the door and perhaps one or more is chaffed. The fuse may only blow with parking lamps on, because the power window switch is illuminated when the lamps are turned on.

try checking the sockets where the taillight bulbs go in. you might have installed the bulb wrong and there could be a bad connection or something. i had a similar problem. also check the wires where the wires go in to the socket.
