My wife's in the friendly town of Houston tonight with my 05 F250 PSD. She went into Wal-Mart for 20 minutes and when she came out, she interrupted some of Houston's finest busting the ignition switch out of the column. Luckily (!?!) all they got was her cell phone. Other than busting the passenger door lock and the ignition switch, everything looks good. The Houston Police officer said they would review Wal-Marts camera but even if they caught the guy, it's just a misdemeanor. I didn't get the feeling that they would pursue it. Between the Police, the Ford house, and the tow truck driver, she said the tow truck driver was by far the nicest. Anybody got any ideas for a kill switch that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
Pissed about my truck but grateful my wife's safe.
She has that one. If it hadn't been a crowded parking lot, I'd be catching a flight down to post bail. Does anyone know anythign about MimoUSA security systems?
Glad they didnt get the truck.....yeah HPD is not going to do jack about it. Mine was stolen on 6 JUL and they still havent assigned an officer to the case.
Glad your truck and wife are safe. Check out the DEI Viper alarm systems. I have one on my truck and have never had a problem. If the alarm goes off the ignition is killed.
I use a Clifford Matrix alarm on my new truck. I agree with Bear that HPD isn't going to do anything about the case. They told me that is what I have insurance for. The sad thing is I do consultant work for them. Just out of curiosity what part of Houston was she in?
Bud...I've been down the same road with HPD...They didn't do anything...As a matter of fact they didn't even finish filling out the report and I had a government issued .45 stolen along with several federal documents. They took over on my end and ended up suspending the two officers 6 months later with pay for 2 weeks. What a deal is that?
I always hated those damned alarms, but I have one all all my vehicles now including my new 5th wheel. I have the Viper 760's with ignition bypass, glass breakage and two internal sirens. The outside sirens aggravate everyone around you, but with two 125db sirens blast you in the ears you can't stand it long.
It's a shame that we have to do this, but extreme times take extreme measures...
P.S. I was on my way through Houston and was there only 15 minutes in "WalMart" parked 8 spaces from the main door when this happened. Brand New Walmart with New Cameras and NO VCR's recording. There were witness's, but everyone hauled butt when the HPD showed up.
Viper Makes Am Awesome Alarm I Have The Remote Paging , Remote Start , Automated Window Roll Up, Also Remote Window Crack Or Partial Roll Down, The Alarm Has Been Awesome !! No Where Near The Amount Of False Alarms As My Clifford , Oh Yes It Alsop Has A Turbo Timmer Where You Set The Time To Cool Down, It Is A Little On The Priey Side But T Is Still Cheep Insurance
Thanks for the info and Viper numbers! I'll definitely be getting a Viper alarm. I looked at their website a little last night and they have so much to choose from that I wasn't sure which I needed. I want the remote start, turbo cool-down etc. I looked for one wirh a remote under-seat grenade detonator but I didn't see it. She was at the Wal-Mart off Westhiemer near the Beltway. One of my co-workers had his laptop stolen from his truck at the same store 2 years ago. The punks have to know they have a free ticket. Cops don't care, B&E is a misdemeanor, public turns the other way. I guess that's reason number 54,678,211 not to live in Houston.
It's sad things haven't changed there -- we lived there from '91 - '95. I'd never been somewhere where every house we looked at to buy had an alarm system, and the folks I worked with told me to get an alarm on my 1 year old truck as soon as it came off the transport (we did).
Only good thing would've been if your wife had drawn and killed them, it would have been justified in TX (at least when I was there you had the right to protect your property with lethal means, if needed). Not quite the same out here in Kalifornia...
My wife still occasionally packs the .38 we bought her when we lived in Houston (bought it the day after a home invasion robbery 2 doors down from us, in what we thought was a very safe neighborhood).
Still, we have a lot of good friends down there, and DAMN they have some good food...!
i have a Python(DEI made), same as viper with remote start, starter kill, turbo timer. I also wired in a switch and hid it where only my wife and i know to the starter. So if they bypass the alarm it still wont start. I also got an extra siren and put it under the dash, so when they are inside it should be loud as hell. both sirens have built in battery packs so even if alarm is bypassed they will still sound until backup battery dies. Look up DEI alarms!!!
