I have this problem with the RPMs pulsating from 2000 to 0 some times causing the truck to stall I have read similar post and got good info but dont know where these parts are located in my truck it is a 1989 eddie bauer edition and looks like it has all the smog extras in it and it is the 351. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Check for codes before you do anything else, that will tell where the problem is. Failure to do so will likely cause you to buy a lot of parts that you don't need. You can buy a code reader or use a paper clip and the CEL will blink the codes out to you. I don't reccomend having codes checked at parts stores, because their stuff is generic, and is usually wrong. You can do a search of this forum for specifics on how to do it, or go to www.fordfuelinjection.com .
masseysbronco has the right idea. Once you have the codes we can certainly help with the component identification and repair/replacement procedure if necessary.
ok got the codes from the check engen light kind of took me a while but i think they are 23-67-23-67 I am going to put them in the dashes that i marked down
l l - l l l ---- l l l l l l - l l l l l l l ---- l l - l l l ---- l l l l l l - l l l l l l l -------- l--- l - l --- l - l
Each - is 1 sec
I read the definition of the codes but I don't have the slightest clue as to what they mean or how to fix them.
Manual or Automatic Tranny? When you ran the test was this KOEO(Key On Engine Off) or KOER(Key On Engine Running)? Code 67 is most likely because your A/C was in the on possition when you ran the test. Code 23 is your TPS( Throttle Postion Sensor), the computer can no longer compensate for how far out it is. You can try and adjust it or replace it. It is the little black sensor on the bottom of your throttle body. Has 3 wires coming out of it with a connector about 5-6 inches from the sensor. You need to remove the Throttle body in order to replace it. Hope this helps.
it is a automatic tranny got rid of the code 23 (not shure how i did it) but now it is coming up with a lot more codes if i did it right they are 67-67-1-34-63-87-34-63-87
and i did the test in KOEO mode and the ac off on both tests
l l l l l l -- l l l l l l l ---- l l l l l l -- l l l l l l l -------- l ---- l l l -- l l l l ---- l l l l l l -- l l l ---- l l l l l l l l -- l l l l l l l ---- l l l -- l l l l ---- l l l l l l -- l l l ---- l l l l l l l l -- l l l l l l l
ps I did find some vac hoses not conected to anything so i tryed to find where they went and huked them up one was from the head cover to the air filter and the other came from under the truck and whent to a plastic container just under the battery kind of looks like a canteen.
Ok, the codes flash out twice in succession so the duplicate numbers are just that, duplicates. The single flash is the separator between the on-demand codes and the stored codes and means nothing.
Code 67, as 80Bronco94 mentioned, is most likely the air conditioning having been in the ON position during the test.
Code 63 is still TP sensor-related. Its NOT sending information to the computer. best bet would be to replace it. Code 87 is a dead fuel pump circuit or relay. You should be able to hear the pump prime when you trun the key "on" but don't start the truck. If not, the circuit is suspect. The terminal in the EEC-self test connector on the short beveled side is the power for the fuel pump circuit. you should have battery voltage (12VDC approx.) between it and ground. If not, again, dead circuit.
Code 34 is insufficient EGR flow which means either you have vacuum supply problems to the EGR valve (i.e. none), its stuck, or the EVP sensor (mounted atop the EGR valve) has a problem.
