My poor old IP hardly made any sound from my engine at all. Now with a rebuilt IP I have a bit of clatter rattle when cold, PS type noise, when the advance and high idle cuts out though the PS rattle is gone. What I do have is a for lack of better desciption, a slight quack-clack type of sound at idle. I am assuming that this is normal ignition noise from a properly timed engine firing on all eight.
My timing mark is about 1/2 a mark advanced from static, lots of power and slight smoking at full trottle. If I tromp on it to pass someone I get a bit of the preignition ratttle again. Does this all sound about right to you guys or should I back the timing off a tad. Thanks for everyones input- makes this site great!
Sounds like you are just a tad to advanced.
I have the rattle while the timing advance is on, but as soon as it kicks off it is gone under all throttle loads at all RPM's.
Yah, thats what I figured, backed it off to a hair or less to the other side, no more clatter at any rpm, still seems to have lots of jam. Will see how it is cold in the morning, maybe optimum will be right on the timing mark!! Thanks for your help. Kevin
