I do have a title, but there are no VINs written on it, and it has plates, and the truck was registered in 2000. I have it on a Non-op right now, i mainly wanted the VIN to find out some info on the truck back in 53 like color, etc.
How do you have a title and registration without a Vin# on it? There must be something to say it's that truck?
The Vin# will only tell you the year, the model, the engine size and the manufacturing plant. Wheelbase, paint color, transmission, rear end ratio, GVW, special order info are separate and only on the ID plate. Without the ID plate there is no way to tell. Paint color can usually be determined by looking under the dashboard or in other hidden areas which are seldom repainted.
The old girl does have the original rear end, so i would like to know its ratio, because ill know to replace it if all it does is accelerate like a mother, then just max out at 60 mph =P
A Vin# for 53 should read: F10+(letter for engine size)+3+(letter for assembly plant)+(5 number serial #)
Typical: F10D3A12345
Translation: F10=F100, D=215 CU in I-6, 3= 1953 model year, A=Atlanta plant, 12345= 12,345th 1953 truck built.
I think the older owner was trying to make it a 56 clone, because the fuel tank neck comes out the pass. side of the cab, and is behind the seats, and all the badges that he gave me are 56 ones...hmmm confusing truck... Wonder if he knew about the windshield

I have no clue if its a 53, it could be anything! At least I know its a 53-55 because it has the flat windshield, not the wrap around. I think the owner just wanted a clone, but it has the 53 grill
but I might need a real expert for this one... I know the six cylinders for 53 had a 3 pointed star on the grill, but a 55 I considered had a 4 pointed star on the grill, last night i was looking at my instrument cluster, and saw a 4 pointed star. Could this be an indication that this isn't a 53?
is the dash different for 53-55? or just between those years and 56, beacuse I know the dash for 56 has the hooded cluster, and other more car like features
Old post but the 53thru 55 all had the same dash configuration. Details about engines I don’t recall. The custom cab had a stainless on the dash and doors and custom cab drip rail was stainless with a logo custom cab on each door heaters were usually installed at the dealership two models my 55 has the fresh air model, that gets air from the louvre don the right side of the cab. My 55 was built in late 55 in Kansas City ford plant. Never found a vin on my right frame at the usual location between the cab and front straight axle. Your internal wheel cover will hide it. My truck also has a 56 grill. I don’t recall the group you might ask around but a group in
kansas City has a lot of history about the Ford Plant. I found them thru a 18 wheeler museum.AJ
