im planning on putting a 4 inch lift on my 94 f-150 with a 5.0L in it and i was wondering what the biggest tire size i could go with just the stock gears and motor. thanks for the help
I would definitely go no bigger than 31-10x50 on stock gears and motor... If you regear to 4.10's, add a cold air intake and put a an aftermarket dual exhaust system on your truck you could easily run 33-12x50s. My truck easily hits 70mph on the highway, but doesn't have much power after that, well as passing power goes. My truck probably tops out at around 80 or 85 with the new gears, but even before the gears the truck really didn't have much of a top end with the 33 tires. I have always wanted to put stock tires on my truck now and see how much power I would have in the torque department, I can almost bet that it would knock me back in the seat.
This is my current setup:
1992 Ford F-150 302EFI
3' Body Lift
E4OD Tranny
Front gears 4.09
Rear gears 4.10
33-12x50 Buckshot Mudders
a buddy of mine just put a 4" lifton his 96 shorty and is running 34-10.5x15 swampers on it and it looks good. same deal with the 5.0 and stock 3.55 gears. not sure how it is in the power department but he only has 3.55 in his 75 bronco with 38's and it runs the mud fine. would rather have lower gears though.
don't get a body lift, especially if your gonna be mudding. Half the reason why i put my 4" suspension lift in was to replace all stock suspension with beefy suspension that could hold up. I run 33's with stock gears. Gets me around, but its harder to turn the tires. If you dont want to spend the money on gears, then go witha 2 1/2 lift with 31's.
I'd suggest doing your motor work, exhaust etc before putting the lift in. Unless you got money. I put the lift in right away, because the guy wouldnt have it for much longer, and i got a real good deal on it. Finally, last week i got enough money to put true duals on. If you do research, these cold air intakes aren't really worth the money. I had a thread a while back on this. Ended up putting the 460 engine duct in which now brings in more cold air then the stock one because its reloacted down in the grill, not by the hood..
Oh yeah, the TTB front axles dont like big tires. 33's are prolly the biggest you'd want to mud with
yea i wasnt planning on a body lift, i was planning on putting new shocks and coil springs in the front, and lift blocks or add-a-leaf in the back, kinda of a cheap way to do it i know but thats all i have money for, i have 31s on the truck right now, and i just wanted to get as much height out of it with out it looking ridiculous, so you thinking a 2 1/2 lift would be as much as i should go?
