four wheel drive trouble
It has push button or switch 4x4. The trouble arose about a week or so ago. The 4x4 and 4x4 low light flashes on an off in bursts of six. It then stops and does not flash for indetermined time. The switch when turned following shift procedure does not engage. The motor has not been diagnosed as bad yet. I'm wondering if the six flashes is a trouble code, however I have not been able to find it listed anywhere.
Side note, the trans was rebuilt in Jan. Its been back under warranty four times for hard shifting and eventually they changed the valve body assembly. Unrelated, but the trans pan is leaking now since last repair. I wonder if them dropping the trans and I guess the transfer case could have caused this problem.
Any suggestions?

Bryan
According to the '97 Ford Manual, six flashes means:
"Clutch and front sensor connectors and/or clutch coil and/or internal circuitry of sensor have discontinuity."
Possible causes:
- Bad or Intermittent Power to Clutch Circuit (look for a 2-wire electrical connector that hooks up to the clutch line on the transfer case housing, with key on, one of the pins (+) should be at 12V).
- Speed Sensor Power Supply Problem (look for a 3-wire connector on the transmission or transfer case, disconnect it, and with the key on, check the middle pin for at least 4V).
- Bad 4WD Contol Module (located behind the center of the dash, behind the GEM. Take out the radio and you will see the GEM which is a black box with gray and a black wiring harnesses connected to it.)
Thanks again
