Hello Everyone ,I hope you can help me,I was driving home from 5 days camping in the mountains when my motor died.I have headlights, brakelights,Hazards and my doorlocks work, other than that everything else is dead,no power at all on everything on the dash,no fuelpump when turning on the key,no gauges reset in fact there still reading what they where when it died, motor does not turn over no radio it's dead and I had to have it towed 130 miles, then drive back to get the trailer, nice finish to a otherwise awesome week. would a computer failure cause this? I hope you can help,,,,Thanks
do not assume the worst. This is going to be so cheap to fix. The hard part is going to be narrowing it down. Here is what I would do.
1. check all your fuses
2. check your relays in the engin compartment next to your air cleaner swithch the around to see if it will start.
3 check your solinoid next to your battery. Make sure no wires are broke inside next to the conections.
When this happened to my 88, it turned out to be the yellow fusable link going from the battery to the firewall. All you need is a test light for continuity to see where the break is at. Most of the times you can see where the fusable link burnt out by looking at the line and seeing something that doesn't look like the rest of the line. Hope that helps out some.
Thanks I'll take a look, where about is the link located? Also if the fusable link is burnt would the headlights, brakelights and doorlocks still work? Thanks for the help.
I checked the fuses and solinoid and it looked good. I didn't think about swapping relays I'll give it a try. I won't be able to work on it until Friday because it's still a 100 miles away so please keep the suggestions coming thanks to all.
Hello,Well I pulled out my Battery today and stuffed behind it was 8 fuseable links, one which was melted so spliced in a new link and it fired up,thanks for the help
