can anyone help me with a 93 Ranger with no tail lights? I have brake lights, and the 4-way flashers work( that is the left side -rear, and the right side front) but no tail lights. The cruise control doesn't work either

Do the front marker lights in the front fenders and under the headlights work?

Do the rear license plate lights work?

P.S. to the license plate lights, some woman ran into the back of my truck(talking on a cellphone) and pushed my bumper under. I had the bumper fixed, but the plate lights were knocked out of their sockets! So, again they are gone--period.

How about the front lights? And being wrecked in the back is not a good sign.

The reason I am asking this is there is one common circuit that runs throughout the whole truck that feeds all the running lights. It's on a brown wire, and originates at the headlight switch.

If none of the running lights work, then I would look for a bad fuse, and then measure voltage on the brown wire at the headlight switch. These are common areas for the whole circuit.

If the front lights work, but the rear don't, then we know the fuse and the headlight switch are good, and there must be a wiring problem in the rear. If the license plate lights had been there and worked, then we would have known the problem is probably in the taillights or the wiring to them at the very rear, since the brown wire has a splice in the rear and feeds all those lights.

Being wrecked in the rear leaves me suspicous that a wire has been damaged, which is killing your taillights.

If I can not replace the license plate lights, what or how should I wire the the taillights. Iwill however check all that you have indicated.

Look for the brown wire coming out of the taillights. It should run down and be spliced together somewhere. Follow it along as good as you can, inspecting for problems along the way You should hit splices for the license plate lights. It should finally end up being one wire that runs along the frame rail with the rest of the wires on the driver's side. There is probably a plug on the driver's side frame rail area in the rear before it takes off up the frame rail.
